Love, Sex, Prayer, Meditation and Yoga

LOVE

Love is any of a number of emotions, experiences related to a sense of strong affection and attachment. Love can refer to a variety of different feelings, states and attitudes.

Over 30 years ago the World Health Organization defined sexual health as:

“…a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.”

There are some definitions of love from great people in the world as follows.

SEX

Anna Freud famously wrote that “sex is something you do, sexuality is something you are.” In biology, sex is a process of combining and mixing genetic traits, often resulting in the specialization of organisms into male and female types. Dictionary definitions of sex tend to be less literary, offering several definitions including:

Sex is a way of distinguishing male and female members of a species, usually by referencing their reproductive functions.

Sex refers to coitus or intercourse, an act that can result in reproduction.

Sex refers to the genitals.

Sex education seeks both to reduce the risks of potentially negative outcomes from sexual behavior, like unwanted or unplanned pregnancies and infection with sexually transmitted diseases, and to enhance the quality of relationships. It is also about developing young people's ability to make decisions over their lifetime. Sex education that works, by which we mean that it is effective is sex education that contributes to this overall aim.

Evidence suggests that effective school programmers will include the following elements:

A focus on reducing specific risky behaviors;

A basis in theories which explain what influences people's sexual choices and behavior;

A clear, and continuously reinforced message about sexual behavior and risk reduction;

Providing accurate information about, the risks associated with sexual activity, about contraception and birth control, and about methods of avoiding or deferring intercourse;

Dealing with peer and other social pressures on young people; providing opportunities to practice communication, negotiation and assertion skills;

Uses a variety of approaches to teaching and learning that involve and engage young people and help them to personalize the information;

Uses approaches to teaching and learning which are appropriate to young people's age, experience and cultural background;

Is provided by people who believe in what they are saying and have access to support in the form of training or consultation with other sex educators.

PRAYER

Prayer is the practice of the presence of God. It is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted, and supplication is made. Prayer is the place of admitting our need, of adopting humility, and claiming dependence upon God. Prayer is the needful practice of the Christian. Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope. "Prayer is one of the greatest tools one can have in the world because it opens the door to a dialogue with God. Many believe they must be serious and reverent in their prayers with God, and yet that is unnecessary. Remembering God in a happy moment as well as a challenging moment is a wonderful blessing for everyone, and to connect with God in whatever place you are is always welcome.

MEDITATION

Meditation is an approach that anyone can use to help them cope with medical problems, stress, and anxiety by way of thought, contemplation, and reflection. Meditation is a three step process that leads to a state of consciousness that brings serenity, clarity, and bliss. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. "Watching your breath" is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation. Meditation is a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. It is recognized as a component of almost all religions, and has been practiced for over 5,000 years.

YOGA

The word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where yoga originated. We can think of the union occurring between the mind, body and spirit. Yoga refers to traditional physical and mental disciplines originating in India. Major branches of yoga include as follows:

1) Raja Yoga 2) Karma Yoga 3) Jnana Yoga 4) Bhakti Yoga and 5) Hatha Yoga.

Many other texts discuss aspects of yoga, including the Vedas, Upanishads and the Bhagvad Gita.
