what kind of stretching will ease the sciatic pain?

I hurt my lower back while trying to lift someone up. Now I have sciatic pain on the back of my leg. If I stand too long or sitting on a soft chair it'll have this sharp pain. What kind of exercise can I do to lower the pain? Willl yoga help?

Oh girl I feel your pain. Literally. I've had two back surgeries but still have permanent damage to my sciatic nerve. I hurt all the time; it's just part of my life now. At least I can walk now (I was partially paralized before my surgeries) so I can't really complain!

In your case, you've got a lower back issue. There are specific stretching exercises for this. You really should see your doctor; he can give you handouts that show these exercises. He may also recommend physical therapy, or he may write a prescription for anti-inflamatories to help you. (I couldn't LIVE without mine for a while!)

Yoga might help but you need to tell the yoga instructor what's going on first.

If this goes on for more than a few days more, PLEASE do see your doctor. Hopefully it's not the case, but you could have something more serious than just a back sprain. My point isn't to worry you, but rather to educate you that nerve damage can be very quirky and the faster you take action (if action is needed) the better chance you have for a good recovery.
